Teleworking is a double-edged sword for people with disabilities. On one hand, working from home gives those with health problems or a disability the freedom and flexibility they need to manage a successful business. This has been the case in the UK, where some people with disabilities have had to give up full-time work. Working from home allows them to use their skills to best effect by managing time and space according to their own needs. However, there are downsides to this working arrangement. Two of the main problems are the isolation and loneliness, which can lead to depression, as workers can feel cut off from the outside world. Doctors and psychologists in fact advise people who work from home to use technology to share ideas and projects with other people and to invite colleagues and associates to their homes. The Disabled Entrepreneurs Network (DEN) is also an additional source of support for these workers in running their businesses, providing both a support and exchange of experiences.
