(WOOD) Camp Alec was inspired by Alec Cunningham, who never gave up and whose passion for learning was never extinguished. Alec passed away unexpectedly in 2011. His mother, Gina Cunningham, and his teacher Tina Moreno developed Camp Alec. Unique camp designed for kids with disabilities Camp Alec is specifically designed for children with physical disabilities whose primary communication mode is AAC (augmentative and alternative communication). According to the website, the camp is a week of learning together with adult educators and campers. Camp Alec has partnered with Indian Trails, where they can meet the medical and physical needs of campers while also giving them a magical week. Lori and Dave Hastings of Lori’s Voice provided scholarships to campers and also provided welcome bags to each of the parents. Many families travel from out of state and stay at hotels while their child is experiencing camp. This is mainly due to Camp Alec being the only camp of its kind. Camp frees are based on a three-tier system. One-on-one care cost is $1,536. One-on-two care is $1,116, and one-on-three care is $762. The majority of campers require one-on-one care.
